I was able to record with clarity up to 15ft away I think (I was in third row, seated diagonally from podium, lecturer unmiked). Make sure you disable the internal microphone as well, and that the Go Mic is set as the audio mic source in onenote A/V options. I clip the Go Mic to a notebook when note while seated during lecture with Onenote and have my HP 2730p tablet in tablet mode. As you increase gain, you increase all sensitivity across the pattern, so you also increase the likelyhood of audible keystrokes and inking.
The most sensitivity is towards the front. Play around with the gain though since cardioid is heart-shaped (point of heart faces your target) it will pick up some L/R and a slight amout of rear pickup. This will pick up almost anything in a 100 person lecture room in front of the mic. They key to success is to set the gain (amplifier) in windows control panel all the way to 100% and use Cardioid pickup pattern mode. While they market it as a chat/skype/podcast and vocal/instrumental mic, I've just done my first field test in the university lecture hall with astounding results. Samson is a music company, so you're paying a little more for a better product but its still amazing at its price point. I've tried a variety of mic solutions, so this has been an odyssey of sorts.Īnyhow, the Go Mic can be had new for ~$50-80, used for ~$30-40. I'm not affiliated with Samson at all, just FINALLY found a solution that WORKS, so I am sounding off like a product rep. I have found a Onenote audio recording solution that allows for great audio capture within 10-15(maybe 20)ft whilst minimizing keyboard clatter and pen tapping associated with using internal mics.
